Acyclovir is an antiviral drug that is used in the treatment of herpes infections. Acyclovir is a prodrug that is converted to its active form, acyclovir triphosphate, by the enzyme phosphorylase within cells. The target compound impurity can be removed from this product by regioselective hydrolysis to yield the desired substance.
