Beschreibung

(+/-)-2-Acetylaminobutanoic acid is an enzyme inhibitor that is used as a growth regulator for plants. It is also an antidiabetic agent that acts by inhibiting the enzyme phosphorylase, which plays a key role in the breakdown of glycogen. The (+/-) form of this molecule is synthesized from phenetole and hydroxide solution with alkylsulfonyl chloride, followed by treatment with phosphorus pentoxide and sodium hydroxide solution to produce the corresponding α-aminobutyric acid. The biochemical mechanism of action for this molecule has not been determined.
