Beschreibung

9-cis-Acitretin is a retinoid that has been used to treat psoriasis and acne. It is also an effective contraceptive, preventing ovulation in women. 9-cis-Acitretin binds to nuclear receptors and inhibits the synthesis of sebaceous lipids, leading to decreased production of sebum and reduced levels of skin inflammation. Acitretin has been shown to be safe for use in infants and children, with detectable levels found in plasma after oral administration. The concentration of acitretin in the blood decreases rapidly with a half-life of approximately 40 hours. Acitretin is not associated with any toxic potential at doses up to 2 mg/kg/day.
