LAP binds to the active site of the ACE and blocks the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. This inhibition leads to a reduction in blood pressure. LAP has been shown to inhibit the activity of other proteases such as cathepsins, chymotrypsin, trypsin, elastase, and papain.
