Akuammidine is a plant-derived, anti-infective agent that belongs to the group of monoterpenoid indole alkaloids. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells in vitro. Akuammidine is extracted from the stem bark of the Apocynaceae family and purified by Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The extract from this plant has been found to inhibit the growth of human HL60 cells and cervical cancer cells. This compound also exhibits pharmacokinetic properties and can be used for drug development as a chemotherapeutic agent.
