The compound class of amitriptyline N-oxide includes a number of other drugs, such as octopamine, tyramine, dopamine, ephedrine and amphetamine. Amitriptyline N-oxide is oxidized to amitriptyline by human liver microsomes and can be used as a biochemical probe for compounds with similar structures. The profile of amitriptyline N-oxide can be used to identify other compounds with similar structures.
