• Beschreibung: Argatroban is a drug that belongs to the group of anticoagulants and is used in the treatment of blood disorders. Argatroban is an oral prodrug that undergoes hepatic metabolism to its active form, argatroban. Argatroban is a thrombin inhibitor that competes with heparin for binding to antithrombin III and thrombin, thereby preventing the formation of fibrin clots. Argatroban has been shown to be successful in treating patients with congestive heart failure or nephrology dialysis who are at risk for developing deep vein thrombosis. This drug also has a long half-life and does not require frequent monitoring, making it suitable for use in these patient populations. However, argatroban should not be used if there is hepatic impairment or if the patient has undergone recent cerebral surgery due to the risk of brain infarction.
