5-Amino-1-naphthol is a polymer that is used as a cross-linking agent in analytical chemistry. It can be used as an electropolymerization initiator and has been shown to have strong antimicrobial activity against human pathogens. 5-Amino-1-naphthol is also a toll-like receptor agonist that may stimulate the immune system, leading to inflammation. The polymeric matrix of this molecule is hydrophilic and highly viscous, which makes it suitable for use as an adhesive or sealant. The pH optimum for 5-Amino-1-naphthol is 9.5 to 10.5 and it has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties in Sprague Dawley rats.
