10-Anthraquinone-1,5-disulfonic acid disodium salt is a compound with the chemical formula Na2S2O3.10H2O. It is the sodium salt of anthraquinone-1,5-disulfonic acid (AQDS). AQDS is an organic molecule that has been studied for its potential use in the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2. The compound can be produced by reacting anthraquinone with sulfur and sodium hydroxide to form AQDS and then dissolving it in water to produce 10-anthraquinone-1,5-disulfonic acid disodium salt. This process produces the trihydrate form of the compound which crystallizes as orthorhombic crystals. The compound has been shown to have electron transport properties and acceptors for oxygen atoms when protonated or protonated with dithionite.
