C.I. Acid Yellow 40:1 is a reactive dye that is used as a stain to visually identify nitrogen atoms in a hydrocarbon group. The dye reacts with hydrogen ions and the polyvalent organic solvent, which are contained in wastewater, thus changing the colour of the solution from yellow to brown or red. C.I. Acid Yellow 40:1 has been used in detergent compositions and polymer films for its reactive properties.
