5-Amino-DL-tryptophan is a synthetic amino acid that can be oxidized to produce a variety of oxidation products, including peroxide and imine. It is also an effective regulator of azide and can be used in magnetic nanoparticles. 5-Amino-DL-tryptophan has been shown to have therapeutic effects on the central nervous system, including the treatment of depression. This drug's ring structure allows it to bind to adenosine in order to inhibit its degradation by phosphodiesterase, thereby increasing the amount of adenosine available for signaling.
