Beschreibung

DL-7-Azatryptophan monohydrate is a calcium-binding cyclic peptide that has been used as a model system to study enzyme inhibition. It inhibits the activity of enzymes by binding to the active site and blocking access to substrate. DL-7-Azatryptophan monohydrate binds to tryptophan synthetase, preventing it from synthesizing tryptophan and other amino acids necessary for protein synthesis. This drug also inhibits the activity of enzymes such as phenylalanine synthetase and tyrosine hydroxylase that are required for melanin synthesis in skin cells. DL-7-Azatryptophan monohydrate has been shown to be effective against infectious diseases such as anthrax and tuberculosis, which are caused by bacteria that produce enzymes similar to those inhibited by this drug.
