Avermectin is a type of avermectin B1a. Avermectins are a class of insecticide that has been used to control agricultural pests and parasites, such as insects and nematodes. It is a potent anthelmintic drug that has been shown to kill roundworms, tapeworms, and hookworms. Avermectins have been shown to bind to the cell nuclei in resistant mutants of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. This binding was found to be synergistic with other compounds, including other avermectins or methoprene. Avermectin B1a is an intramolecular hydrogen-containing analogue of avermectin B1b, which exhibits high fluorescence in vitro assays and analytical methods.
