3-Aminotropane is a concomitant atypical antidepressant that is synthesised from dopamine. It has been shown to bind to 5-HT1A and 5-HT3 receptors, with no affinity for 5-HT2A receptors. 3-Aminotropane has also been shown to block the binding of serotonin to the 5-HT1B receptor, which may be responsible for its antidepressant effects. The drug was found to have high affinity for the dopamine transporter and was found to inhibit dopamine reuptake. This property may be responsible for its antidepressant properties as well. 3-Aminotropane has a hydrophilic interaction chromatography profile and is an ion exchange ligand. It can be used in both high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC).
