Beschreibung

Adamantane is a molecule consisting of four fused rings that resemble a diamond. The 1,3-adamantanedicarboxylic acid is an adamantane derivative that contains a carboxylic acid group in the middle of the molecule. The FTIR spectra show that there are two types of architectures for 1,3-adamantanedicarboxylic acid: one with nitrogen atoms on the right and one with nitrogen atoms on the left. This compound has been shown to have anti-viral activity against P. aeruginosa and to be structurally similar to other molecules, such as naphthalene, which possess strong hydrophobic properties. It is possible that 1,3-adamantanedicarboxylic acid may inhibit viral replication by binding to the hydrophobic regions of a virus's outer shell or by combining with water molecules in order to form hydrogen bonds.
