The substrate specificity of this enzyme, which was purified by fractionation, is 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid and 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid with metals such as copper or zinc ions. This enzyme also catalyses the hydrolysis of proteins and peptides containing hydrophobic amino acids.
