It has been shown to inhibit EGFR in a number of cancers, including breast and prostate cancer. 2-ADMA binds to the iminium group on the receptor and prevents binding of EGF ligands, preventing downstream signal transduction. This drug also has pharmacophore properties that are similar to lapatinib, a drug used for the treatment of breast cancer.
