4-Amino-6-chloro-5-methoxypyrimidine is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CHNO. It is a white solid, soluble in water and polar organic solvents. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pyrimethamine, sulfadoxine and other drugs. 4-Amino-6-chloro-5-methoxypyrimidine can be obtained by reacting 2,4,6-trichloropyrimidine with formaldehyde followed by hydrolysis of the resulting 4,6-dichloropyrimidine with ammonia at high temperature and pressure. The chemical has been used in the past as an impurity profile to identify the presence of pyrimethamine during chromatography.
