2-Amino-3,3-difluoropentanedioic acid (2ADPA) is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme glutaminase, which converts glutamate to ammonia and alpha-ketoglutarate. 2ADPA inhibits the growth of leukemia cells in vitro by inhibiting the synthesis of nucleotides. It also has an inhibitory effect on erythrocyte synthetase, which is responsible for the production of hemoglobin. 2ADPA has been shown to be a useful therapeutic agent for cancer and may have folic acid analog properties. The 2ADPA molecule contains a number of sites that can be used to covalently attach other molecules. These sites are called ligation sites, and they are found at both ends of the molecule. One end of the molecule is an acid conjugate acceptor site, while the other end is a chromatographic site. The stereospecificity indicates that only one orientation will be
