Beschreibung

12-Ketodeoxycholic acid is a bile acid that is synthesized from cholesterol. It inhibits the activity of lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that breaks down triglycerides in the blood. This leads to an increase in fatty acids and cholesterol in the blood stream, which may be responsible for its carcinogenic effects. 12-Ketodeoxycholic acid is used as a dietary supplement to treat gallstones and prevent cancer. It binds to the cell surface receptor on some cancer cells, leading to their death by apoptosis or necrosis. 12-Ketodeoxycholic acid also inhibits intestinal inflammation, which may be due to its ability to inhibit leukotrienes and prostaglandins synthesis.
