The photochemical cleavage of the amide bond occurs with a quantum yield of 0.4 and produces a diphenyl ether and an acetonitrile derivative. This reaction mechanism has been proposed in order to explain the formation of a nitro group in the molecule, which is responsible for its labile nature.
