2,5-Dihydroxy-1,4-benzenediacetic acid is a synthetic molecule that has been synthesized by reacting tyrosine with carboxylate ions. The molecule has potential use in the treatment of cryptococcus neoformans infections and shows luminescence properties. 2,5-Dihydroxy-1,4-benzenediacetic acid is fluorescent and absorbs light in the near infrared region. It also reacts with hydrogen ions to produce an intramolecular hydrogen bond. 2,5-Dihydroxy-1,4-benzenediacetic acid is structurally similar to the natural growth factor histidine.
