It has been shown to inhibit the release of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin (IL)-1β, by inhibiting phospholipase A2 activity. 3-Methylnonane also inhibits the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are inflammatory mediators that promote airway constriction and bronchoconstriction.; 3-Methylnonane is produced by reacting hexanes with supercritical CO2 at high pressure or by reacting fatty acids with water at high temperature.
