It is an acr20 response predictor for the diagnosis of chronic hepatitis C and the disease activity index in women with genital herpes. 5BCDA has been found to be effective in reducing levels of IL-17a and IL-17f, which are cytokines that are important for immune responses. 5BCDA has also been shown to be effective in treating infectious diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis.
