Borane dimethylamine complex (BDAC) is a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound with two boron atoms. It is a white crystalline solid that has an optimum concentration of 0.1 M for the treatment of infectious diseases and colorectal adenocarcinoma. BDAC is also used as a fluorescence probe to detect disulfide bonds in proteins and peptides, which are important for their stability, function, and folding. The reaction mechanism of BDAC involves the formation of a reactive intermediate from the borane-boron bond, followed by abstraction of the hydrogen atom from one molecule of water to form the hydroxide ion and the borate ion. This process generates an unstable intermediate that decomposes into H2O and HO-B-OH, which then reacts with another molecule of water to form H3O+HO-B-OH+.
