(2R)-3-Bromo-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-[4-nitro-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]propanamide is a drug that binds to G protein coupled receptors and inhibits the release of catecholamines from cardiac cells. It has been shown to be effective against HIV infection. This compound has also been shown to inhibit inflammation by inhibiting the production of inflammatory cells in stem cell lines. The molecular modeling techniques used to synthesize this compound were based on the structure of curcumin, which is a natural product found in turmeric. The synthesis of this compound was achieved through a two step process involving a nucleophilic displacement reaction followed by an oxidation reaction.
