The monomeric 4-tert-Butylphenoxyacetic acid is a β-cyclodextrin derivative that contains two chiral centers. This molecule has been used as a stationary phase for the separation of peptides and amino acids in liquid chromatography. The (4-tert-Butylphenoxy)acetic acid also has an interesting property, it can be used to generate enantiomers by reacting with sodium methoxide. The selectivity of this compound is dependent on the column packing material and elution order.
