4-Bromo-7-azaindole is a synthetic amine that has been shown to have anticancer activity. It has been shown to induce significant cytotoxicity in vitro against human ovarian carcinoma cell lines as well as lung fibroblasts. The mechanism of action of 4-bromo-7-azaindole is believed to be due to its ability to interact with hydrogen bonding and nitrogen atoms. Its cytotoxic activity was observed when the compound was in the cis form, but not when it was in the trans form. This may be due to steric interactions between the bromine atom and the benzene ring.
4-Bromo-7-azaindole can be synthesized by a cross coupling reaction using 2,6-lutidine and ethyl acetate.
