2-Butynoic acid is a trifluoroacetic acid derivative that has been shown to inhibit the production of cytokines and inflammatory mediators in human macrophages. It has been used as a model system for studying the effects of alkanoic acids on antibody production. This drug may also be useful in treating autoimmune diseases by inhibiting the formation of antibodies. 2-Butynoic acid is an α-subunit inhibitor that prevents cellular transformation and tumor growth by preventing proliferation and metastasis.
