It has been shown to have anti-oxidant properties, in addition to the ability to inhibit the oxidation of other molecules. 5-(Benzyloxy)-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde is also able to react with other compounds and form new compounds. One example of this is its reaction with chloride, which leads to the formation of benzodiazepine receptor, a chemical that is important for regulating nerve cells.
