2-Bromo-4-iodobenzaldehyde is a photochemical reagent that can be used to introduce aryl groups into organic compounds. It reacts with radical species and photochromic compounds, and is also used in the photoresponsive chemistry of imidazolyl radicals. The rate of this reaction is increased upon irradiation. 2-Bromo-4-iodobenzaldehyde absorbs light at wavelengths between 300 nm and 450 nm, with an absorption coefficient of 0.00002 cm−1 M−1. It has a high chemical stability and does not undergo hydrolysis or oxidation reactions.
