Bis(2-bromoethyl) ether is a nitrogen containing chemical that has been shown to have potential for use in the treatment of malaria. It is an enantiomer and it inhibits acetylcholinesterase, which is an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine. Bis(2-bromoethyl) ether can be used as a reactivator in deionized water. The reactivation process is based on the nucleophilic properties of bis(2-bromoethyl) ether and its ability to form hydrogen bonds with water molecules. Bis(2-bromoethyl) ether also shows kinetic stability, which means that it does not decompose under normal conditions, even at high temperatures.
