(R)-3-N-Boc-aminomethylpyrrolidine is an antibacterial agent that belongs to the class of bicyclic compounds. It has been optimized for biological activity and has shown efficient synthesis, highlighted by its bicyclic ring system. The bicyclic ring system is comprised of a six membered nitrogen-containing heterocycle with an attached four membered heterocycle. It is chemically related to the antibiotic ampicillin, which also contains a bicyclic ring system. The active form of this drug binds to bacterial ribosomes, preventing protein synthesis and cell division. This drug may be effective against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria, such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
