Beschreibung

Bensulfuron is a herbicide that inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids in plants by inhibiting acetyl-CoA carboxylase. It has been shown to have synergistic effects with other herbicides, such as flazasulfuron, when applied at lower rates. Bensulfuron is used to control broad-leaved weeds and grasses in agricultural crops, turfgrass, and home lawns. The uptake of bensulfuron into plant cells depends on the degree of unsaturation of the fatty acid. In general, low degrees of unsaturation are associated with a higher rate of uptake.
Bensulfuron binds to the bacterial enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), which is involved in the production of fatty acids from acetyl-CoA and oxaloacetate. This binding prevents ACC from catalyzing the conversion of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA, thereby preventing fatty acid synthesis.
