7H-Benzo[c]fluorene is an aromatic compound that is used as a biomarker for human metabolism. It is mainly excreted in urine and can be detected in blood and tissues. The redox potential of 7H-benzo[c]fluorene varies from -0.3 to -1.5 V, which indicates that it can be oxidized easily. The metabolic profile of 7H-benzo[c]fluorene has been determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The metabolites were identified by comparison with those found in rat liver microsomes, human liver microsomes, and human liver mitochondria. 7H-Benzo[c]fluorene was shown to inhibit the activity of p450 enzymes involved in the production of serotonin, leading to an increase in serotonergic system activity.
