This drug can cause unintended effects on other insects and mammals, which may be due to its ability to inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity in humans and rats, leading to paralysis. 2-Bromo-5-methylaniline is also a product of palladium catalyzed reactions with isocryptolepine, a chemical compound that has been shown to have antiplasmodial properties.
