1H-Benzimidazole-4-methyl-2-propyl-6-carboxylic acid (1BMP) is a synthetic corrosion inhibitor that prevents the corrosion of metal surfaces by forming protective films on the surface. It also has potentiodynamic polarization properties and can be used as an electrochemical impedance spectroscopic probe for chloride ions in aqueous solutions. 1BMP is used industrially and can be found in environmental pollution. 1BMP is synthesized from imidazole derivatives and encompasses many postprocessing steps, including dehydration, which removes water molecules from the molecule to form a more stable compound.
