• Beschreibung: Benzylmalonic acid is a chemical that has been used to study the role of ATP-binding cassette transporter (ABC) proteins in autoimmune diseases. ABC proteins are involved in transporting molecules across cell membranes, and their dysfunction leads to the development of autoimmune diseases. Benzylmalonic acid binds to the receptor site on ABC proteins and blocks their function, inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines. This agent also binds to picolinic acid, which is an intermediate metabolite in the kynurenine pathway that is linked to inflammatory response. The structure of benzylmalonic acid may be responsible for its effects on congestive heart disease because it can bind with phosphorus pentoxide and form a precipitate that may interfere with calcium binding. This drug has also shown anti-inflammatory properties as well as cardiotoxic effects when used at high doses.
