Beschreibung

1,2-Bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)ethane (BTBE) is a brominated flame retardant that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of cancer cell growth. BTBE is used in the treatment of wastewater effluents as a substitute for other pollutants and as a fire retardant in polyurethane foams. It has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of adrenocortical carcinoma cells and can also be used to retard the growth of human serum. The antimicrobial properties of BTBE have been studied in skin models and it has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential. This chemical also reacts with fatty acids at room temperature to form brominated fatty acid derivatives. BTBE can be analyzed by dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSPE).
