2-Bromo-1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)ethanone (2BMET) is a synthetic compound that is used as an antihypertensive agent. 2BMET has been shown to increase renal blood flow, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the release of vasoconstricting factors such as butyric acid and endothelin. 2BMET has been shown to have anticancer effects in both animal and cell culture studies, which may be due to its ability to cause DNA damage. This drug also inhibits the production of dopamine by blocking the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase. 2BMET is classified as a quinolizidine alkaloid and has two stereoisomers: 1R,2S and 1S,2R. The 1R,2S stereoisomer can be cleaved into 3-hydroxyquinoline and 3-methoxybenzoic acid.
