Buthiazide can be used in tissue culture to control the effects of cardiac cells on cardiac function. The drug has been shown to reduce the expression of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) in human serum. Buthiazide is also effective in reducing inflammation in the digestive system, by inhibiting the production of fatty acid and protein genes that are involved in inflammatory bowel disease.
