Bis(2,2'-bipyridine)-4'-methyl-4-carboxybipyridine-ruthenium N-succinimidyl ester-bis(hexafluorophosphate) has also been shown to have a low detection limit and can detect low levels of matrix metalloproteinase activity in cells.
