Beschreibung

6,8-Bis(benzylthio)octanoic acid is a new active analogue of the natural product folfirinox. It is designed to inhibit autophagy, which may be important for cancer progression. 6,8-Bis(benzylthio)octanoic acid has been shown to inhibit cancer cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in vitro. In vivo studies have shown that this agent can reduce the size of tumors and prolong survival in mouse models of metastatic pancreatic cancer. 6,8-Bis(benzylthio)octanoic acid also inhibits tumor growth in mice with metastatic colorectal cancer by blocking mitochondrial membrane potential and inducing autophagy. This agent has been shown to be effective against platinum-resistant ovarian cancer cells in vitro and intravascular hemolysis in a mouse model system.
