Beschreibung

1-Bromo-2-chloroethane is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CH3BrCl. It is used as a fumigant, an intermediate in organic synthesis, and a precursor to other chemicals. 1-Bromo-2-chloroethane is produced by the reaction of hydrogen chloride with ethylene and methyl ethyl ether. This chemical has been extensively studied for its conformational properties, which are dependent on the presence of a hydrogen bond. The molecule has two conformations, one in which the two bromine atoms are on opposite sides of the carbon atom and another in which they are not. 1-Bromo-2-chloroethane is also used as an intermediate in organic synthesis and can be converted to other chemicals such as chloral hydrate or ethylene diamine.
