Beschreibung

2-Butyl-3-(4-hydroxybenzoyl)-5-nitrobenzofuran (2BA) is an arrhythmic agent that is used to treat atrial fibrillation. 2BA is a Friedel-Crafts acylation product of benzene and methyl ester, which has a high yield. It is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed by esterases to dronedarone, its active form. This drug has been shown to be effective in controlling fibrillation in both animal models and human patients. 2BA binds to the chloride channel on cardiac muscle cells, which leads to the production of hyperpolarizing currents and prevents the generation of action potentials, thereby preventing fibrillation. The methyl group on 2BA also makes it more controllable than other antiarrhythmics.
