Boc-Lys(2-Cl-Cbz)-OH is an analog of nicotinic acetylcholine that has antiviral potency. Boc-Lys(2-Cl-Cbz)-OH binds to the responsive element in the 5' UTR region of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and inhibits HIV-1 replication. It is a cyclic peptide with a specific interaction with the acetylcholine receptor, which may be due to its ability to inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. Boc-Lys(2-Cl-Cbz)-OH also binds to human erythrocyte membranes and inhibits cell proliferation, which may be due to its ability to interfere with DNA synthesis.
