Beschreibung

Bis(cyclopentadienyl)magnesium is a trimethyl compound that has been shown to have a number of analytical applications, such as for the determination of magnesium and hydrogen chloride content. Bis(cyclopentadienyl)magnesium has also been used in supramolecular chemistry, where it was found to form complexes with magnesium oxide. Bis(cyclopentadienyl)magnesium is a hydrogenated organometallic compound that can be activated by heating or photolysis. This chemical is capable of forming hydrogen bonds between the hydrogen atoms and the oxygen atoms on magnesium oxide. The activation energy for this process is about 10-20 kJ/mol, which is relatively low. The optical properties of bis(cyclopentadienyl)magnesium are dependent on its environment and can change from red to green depending on the presence of other molecules or ions. Researchers are also looking into how these optical properties could be used to study cell growth rates.
