- (R)-(+)-2-(tert-Butoxycarbonylamino)-3-phenylpropanal
- N-t-BOC-D-phenylalaninal
Boc-D-phenylalaninal is an antibacterial agent that belongs to the group of phenacyls. It has high bactericidal activity against gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and enterococci, but is inactive against gram-negative bacteria. Boc-D-phenylalaninal is also active against some strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Candida albicans. This compound binds to the ribosome in bacteria and inhibits protein synthesis by blocking the formation of peptide bonds between amino acids. Boc-D-phenylalaninal has been shown to be effective at inhibiting bacterial growth in vitro and in animal studies, but research on its use in humans is lacking.
