3-Bromobenzoic acid ethyl ester (3BAEE) is a chemical compound that is used as an alkylating agent. It is a quaternary ammonium salt that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of histone deacetylase. 3BAEE has also been shown to have anti-tumor activity and pharmacokinetic properties, which are dependent on the ligand structure and its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. Furfural, a synthetic byproduct of the synthesis of 3BAEE, can inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, although it does not have any significant effect on tumor cells.
