Beschreibung

1,3-Bis(methylthio)-2-methoxypropane is a chemical compound that contains the methylthiol group. It is used to generate stable complexes with hexane and other alkylating agents. This compound reacts with β-unsaturated aldehydes to form skeleton structures. 1,3-Bis(methylthio)-2-methoxypropane can also be made in an enantioselective manner by reacting a benzofuran derivative with diisopropylamine and butyllithium followed by irradiation. The resulting product is an asymmetric ligand that binds to metal ions such as copper, silver, or gold. Byproducts of this reaction include dimethyl sulfide and hydrogen sulfide.
